A native of New York's Hudson Valley, Kim Knox Beckius has always enjoyed exploring neighboring New England. In 1996, she relocated to Connecticut and gained a more central "catbird seat" from which to observe and explore the region. Since 1998, she has produced About.com's New England for Visitors Web site, taking Internet users on a virtual tour of New England, providing lively, weekly commentary on travel and events, and sharing insight into Yankee tradition, history, and ingenuity. Her free, weekly About New England newsletter keeps thousands of travelers informed about travel opportunities, deals, and fun events in the region. 

She is also the author of The Everything Guide to New England, a comprehensive travel guidebook to the region, and The Everything Outdoor Wedding Book, a complete guide for couples planning to marry outdoors. Her writing and photography have also been featured on several other travel-related Web sites and in magazines such as Grace Ormonde's Wedding Style and Bride & Groom. 

Much of the research for Backroads of New England was completed while Beckius and her husband, Bruce, were expecting their first child, Lara, who was born an experienced backroads traveler.
